Account Alert from blockbuster.com

Just received a email from blockbuster indicating they will not "automatically renew" my subscription and that I have to choose a new plan, to get the closest thing to what I have now I will have to pay $7 more a month and I wont get a free rental coupon each month.

I am tempted to switch back to Netflix in-protest, they have a better movie selection have HD-DVD rentals and have only ever reduced my montly bill and never reduced what I got for the money.

On the other hand Blockbuster has never rate limted me (Netflix had), and shipping has allways been next day (and its been years since Netflix was for me).

I wish Hollywood had a by-mail service, they have a better selection by far and their local stores are better than Blockbusters.

In any event I have until the 24th to decide.

[Update 08/17/07 11:08PM] Well I have read a bit more about this, looks as if they have selectivly chosen who can keep the current plan and who can not based onĀ each personsĀ usage patern; claims on Hacking Netflix sugest that they are taking 25% of their subscribers and doing this to them.

I am not a lawyer, and I did not keep the click through agreement (though I did read it) but I do not recal any language that sugests that if I use the service too much they can raise my price, and since they have not done this to everyone they clearly have used some discrimnary practices here. Thats not to say they did not have some statement indicating that they could change their plans and prices, but the selective thing makes you say hmm. I wonder if this is legal maybe a class action law suit is comming.
